To Kill Me
Here’s a lyric that I’m writing based on events that occurred this morning. Once I finish revising/rewriting it, I hope to turn it into a song, and I hope she hears it. And, because tumbler double-spaces when you hit enter (for some reason), I will seperate each line with a dash, each stanza with a paragraph break.
“To Kill Me” (1st draft) by Bryce Christian Lowry
Now I know I should never trust my instincts,/That I should never feel secure./Now I know why your men need their vodka-/Souls longing for an unknown cure.
I can take almost anything.
Now I know I wasn’t as alive as I thought,/That I was seeing illusions./Do you know what it’s like when the truth is a lie,/Or when you’re living for dilusions?
I can’t take everything.
Chorus: If you were trying to kill me,/You did./If you were trying to kill me,/ There were better ways to do it./If you had strangled me,/At least I could say I died in your hands./If you had stabbed me,/At least I could say you reached for my heart.
You say that you didn’t think about my feelings./I say you’ve got that straight./You finally said you blame yourself./Well, now it’s too late.
I can take anything but that ring and your laughter.
Chorus: If you were trying to kill me,/You did./If you were trying to kill me,/ There were better ways to do it./If you had strangled me,/At least I could say I died in your hands./If you had stabbed me,/At least I could say you reached for my heart.
At least I’d be able to say you reached for my heart.
Reach for my heart.
